Stage 1

Do You Believe in Magic?

(Written by Sabine, a new fan)

One day changed everything. A Sunday in August sent me on a roller-coaster ride out of which I haven’t recovered yet. On the contrary: I don’t want to recover.

My first encounter with Shaun Cassidy was a YouTube clip of Sole Survivor, an episode from the second season of the Hardy Boys. At first it was his despair at having lost his family. I fell for him at once and I liked his voice.

Then there was that scene, where he was forced to walk out of a hospital room.

My eyebrows rose and I remember thinking: OMG. I stopped the clip and watched this scene at least 6 times in a row.

It was the first time that I saw HIS BODY!

The casual attitude! The bouncing step!

The long fingers of a piano player, the strong fingers of a guitar player, his hair, his facial expressions. I was curious about this guy and my excitement started to grow the following day.

I did a YouTube search and came across several slideshows with music. Every time a new slide popped up, it was like a sting in my stomach. Then I saw the smile for the very first time.

I taped the songs from YouTube so that I could listen to the music. That night, the sleeplessness began. After waking up a couple of times in one night, it took me a sense of discipline NOT to grab the MP3-player AGAIN. Needless to say that I wasn’t successful all of the time.

On Wednesday I had ordered all his albums and the Hardy Boys DVDs. My heart was racing like mad, I couldn’t breathe properly and I forgot to eat. Pure adrenalin was rushing through me.

My body language changed. I smiled a lot, laughed a lot and combed my hair differently. Everywhere I went, I took the music with me, even when I was riding my bike. Every time when I woke up at night I had to listen to at least 2 or 3 songs. Sleeping was a waste of time. It prevented me from reading about him, hearing him talk or just looking at him.

I needed to talk with other fans, otherwise I would have exploded. Thanks to the Internet, this was easy. It helped a lot to know that I wasn’t alone with this excitement because I couldn’t figure out what had happened to me. I felt like I found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Stage 2

Fallin' Into You
(written by ShaunsSharona)

You know that you’ve “fallin’ into Shaun” when:

You start talking about Shaun to anyone who will listen.

You start telling your friend about Shaun and you can’t stop giggling.

Your house is a mess, dishes are piled up in the sink, the laundry basket is full, but you still “find time” to watch a Hardy Boys episode.

You find the courage to admit to yourself that you are probably in love with him.

You are not ashamed to profess your love for him to other fans.

You have PMS and the only thing that makes you feel better is watching Shaun sing “Be My Baby”, while stuffing cheese puffs and Oreos into your mouth.

You buy a walk-in freezer, just in case you need it for any “hot flashes” that may occur while you are gazing at his sweet face.

You realize that the only way that your floors will get mopped is if you are listening to the WASP album.

You know all of the words to all of the songs and you aren’t afraid to sing along.

Your daughter makes you proud by singing “Hey Deanie” all of the time.

You wonder why everything reminds you of him.

You tell your husband “don’t worry honey, I still love you more.”

You tell your guy friends, “you only wish you will look that hot at 51.”

You start dreaming about him and wake up with a big grin on your face.

You realize that mid-life crushes are much more intense than teenage crushes.

Stage 3 and 3.5

Hard Love
(written by ShaunsSharona)

You notice that there are some very interesting “things” below his belt.

You take a picture of his butt to the store with you, wander into the men’s department, and casually ask the salesperson, “would you happen to know what size this is"?

You notice the word “ass” in Cassidy.

You finally understand what the term “big feet” really means.

You find yourself getting “worked up” after watching the “You’re Using Me” video.

Only Because Of Love

(written by ShaunsSharona)

Sometimes you feel that there is no line between reality and fantasy.

You entertain the notion of spending a week in L.A. in a tent just outside of  Disney Studios, hoping to catch him coming or going. You just have  to see him.

On Ebay, you buy a bumper sticker for your car tthat reads “Driver under the influence of Shaun Cassidy.” You also buy a pillowcase with Shaun’s face on it and use it only when your husband goes on a fishing trip.

Ebay produces another treasure - a new Joe Hardy doll. When you take it out of the box, to your surprise, you discover that you got the "bonus" that Mr. Shaun was referring to on Jimmy Kimmel Live. OH YEAH!!

You turn into a puddle of goop every time you hear him say “darlin’”.

You admit that a day without Shaun is like a day without sunshine.

Stage 4

I Wanna Be With You
(written by Peggy, a long time fan)

I am at that point where even after all this time, I am still completely lost in everything that is Shaun.

When I am sad or down and out, all I need to do is pop in a CD and the sound of his wonderful voice will, in seconds, bring me out of that mood and make me want to dance.

When I am feeling lonely, a DVD goes into the player and seeing his handsome face makes me feel as if somebody really does care.

When I dream, I awake with a smile on my face and feel as though he is in the room with me. Sometimes he is even so real that I can still feel his touch & the warmth of his hands on my skin.

I feel that I have known him my whole life, even though we have never met.

I would be willing to go through almost anything for the chance to see him in person. If only I could look into those amazing eyes for a few moments.....
